Compassionate Action

You Are The Light

And here is the link to your current
Invitation to Take Action

The Current Action Step Request is to view the video on the 9/11 TAP Newsletter page linked above. Then send the link to that page, together with your reaction to the video, to at least two people you know who need to awaken to the validity of the 9/11 Truth message – and the power of 9/11 TAP to amplify that message.

Thank-you for considering this request!

The Actions Steps listed elsewhere in the “9/11 Truth” section of “Imagine Peace and Plenty” are foundational and general.  Taking these requested actions will introduce you to information resources intended to expose the true nature of the crimes of 9/11/01 while also connecting you with activist organizations dedicated to bringing the perpetrators of these crimes to justice. The Action Steps requested via the “Invitation to Take Action” link above, however, will almost always be both time sensitive and precisely targeted. Once you have signed up for the “Imagine Peace and Plenty” mailings, you will periodically receive emails directing you to this page  – “Compassionate Action” – where you will find the link to the current “9/11 Truth” Action Step Invitation located right under the “You are the Light” image.

The ultimate goal and underlying philosophy behind all the Action Step Invitations toward which you will be directed is clarified and summarized quite simply in the brief video which follows here:

Love Your Enemies

Many violent revolutions have been fought with high ideals in mind.  When I was a young man I did all that I could to support the Sandinistas in Nicaragua and the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front in El Salvador.  So I don’t mean to condemn those who turn to their guns when driven to despair by political oppression, economic injustice, physical assault and torture. In the end though, the final Global Revolution – the rEvolution that leads to the world of peace and plenty we seek to imagine together though this website – will have to be a truly nonviolent one.

But non-violence is not just a tactic.  It is an attitude of heart.  That attitude has multiple components.  One core element is empathy – the willingness to imagine common emotional ground with both the oppressed and the oppressor. In a sense it is relatively easy to connect emotionally with those whose suffering is obvious – the murdered, wounded and tortured, the indigenous people, the plundered ecosystems and the species driven nearly to extinction.  But can we also imagine what it is like to be the oppressor?  Is there any joy, any peace in being the bully, the thief, the one who murders and tortures?

Here is an exercise that may assist you in finding more common ground with both those we seek to support and those we know we must oppose – the “Just Like Me” exercise. And here is a short hand version of that practice.

Just Like Me

The rallying cry of the Peace and Plenty Warrior is “Bless them. Forgive them. And put them in jail!”  The “put them in jail” part comes easy. We feel noble for not demanding a round of torture, or at least execution, for those who have facilitated so much personal harm, economic ruin and ecological devastation.  But the real power of our movement will come from our recognition of the Unity of all Life and our aligning with the Buddha in the wish, “May all beings be safe, well, free of all suffering and truly happy.”

Let’s recall though that the Buddha did not stop with a general “Best wishes to all!” declaration. Rather, he went to the core of the matter, as must we if these wishes for our self and others are to be genuine and life directing.  The Buddha pointed to the intention inherent in his blessing: “May all beings know the root of safety, health, and freedom from suffering, and thereby achieve genuine happiness.”

Now I am no enlightened master but, as far as I can see, that root is the realization that all of life is a single Unity – a Collective Interdependent Being which, just like our physical bodies, has no truly separate parts.  We seem to function as fully independent selves, but that is an illusion that masks the interdependence of all life and the omnipresence of the Unified Shared Field of Consciousness  – the golden thread that is our True Self. This realization of Unity was the Power that Gandhi drew upon as he worked for the liberation of India and the Source of Love that inspired Martin Luther King to lead our nation toward a more authentically civil society.

It’s In Every One of Us (4:55)

But how does one come to feel love for one’s enemies?  How do we get to the place where we can wish happiness and wellbeing for those who have oppressed all of humankind, plundered our resources and driven our planet to the precipice of irreversible ecological disaster?

First we have to cultivate the desire to be free of our hatred.  Here is a video that can help us to move in that direction.

And then we must decide moment by moment how we will invest ourselves in each person and in each situation that we encounter. Will we continue to opt for fear and separation? Or will we choose to dedicate our lives to the realization of human connection and planetary healing?
